According to this report, the higher the government expenditures are in a country, the less happy and satisfied the people will be. The converse is also true. The less government, the happier the people. This fits right in with libertarian views that people do best when left to their own devices, which is why capitalist America has given far more to the world in terms of technology and wealth than any other country, almost all of which spend far more per person than we do (but spend less on their better education systems).
Some have even equated the French riots in this manner. The cops didn't really go in to these parts of France, so the people were left to their devices, and a large crime industry emerged. Now the police are going in to those areas, and the employees of the local industry are striking against government interference in their jobs.

It makes sense, you know? Government involvement equates to more paperwork, more people waiting/fighting to get their money. Look at income tax, for instance. I tell the gov't I'm poor and don't make enough to pay taxes. So they still collect taxes and then I have to fill out a crapload of paperwork to get my refund.
In France, health care is pretty shoddy. See, social medicine covers everyone, but the upper class prefers to pay out of pocket to get better health care anyway. And it's a reimbursement system that refunds citizens based on what whether the procedure is covered or not.
Socialism doesn't work. Look at countries like Spain. Socialism is for the people right? Then why is everyone poor and living in crappy settings? In France, doctors protest because they make pennies, and half the time cannot perform necessary procedures. It's like that entire country is on an HMO.
What would make me happy is to see less unecessary movement of money. First off, flatten taxes and cut out stupid taxes (especially taxes that double tax the same dollar. There are plenty of those. Hell I see them applied everytime I go to the grocery store.) Privatize social security so I don't feel so sad when I see it taken from me and know I probably won't see it again. And if you're going to tax me, make sure I at least make $15,000/year as I believe that is the minimum income of people who are supposed to pay taxes. (Poor students shouldn't have to pay taxes.)
Any president running under that platform has my vote.
What about the tax credits that those currently below your tax line get? Not only do they not pay taxes, but they are given a portion of my taxes, which is not a credit, it's theft.
