Many of my liberal friends, who say they never have knee-jerk reactions to things because they always think things out, had immediate knee-jerk antagonism to the idea of the FairTax. It's merely a sort of flat-tax, which according to this, is gaining in popularity all over the world, and creating major economic growth wherever it has been instituted. I wouldn't expect one of my liberal friends to use logic, but if they look at the FairTax in a logical manner, and compare our current system with that of, say Estonia, they might discover that rejecting an idea merely because it came from conservatives is really stupid, and that the FairTax is a fantastic plan.
Did you know that in most countries that have a flat tax, the "rich" end up paying even more of a share of the total taxes? Yet the system is a lot more fair, because they are only paying once, and there are fewer loopholes.

Ooh ooh I didn't! I support the fairtax, and you think I'm liberal. Now you have to acknowledge that I'm as moderate as I say I am. Sucka.
I don't like calling it the "FairTax". It puts needless spin on it. Just call it the "Flat Tax". Scorcho isn't the only fair and balanced one here.
Now Scorcho, I know you don't consider yourself a liberal, and I know you support tax reform. And Mike, I believe the FairTax has some major differences from what's called a flat tax. A flat tax is still an income tax, if I understand it correctly, whereas the FairTax is a consumption tax.
Then call it a consumption tax. Calling it a "Fair" tax is just putting spin on it? Anyone who opposes it would be perceived to be in favor of an "Unfair" tax system. You see my point? It's like the Patriot Act. Nothing in the Act has anything to do with being patriotic. It's all about catching terrorists. Calling it the patriot act was just meant to drum up peoples' emotions about patriotism. As in if you oppose something called the Patriot Act you must not be patriotic. I don't like the word games politicians play.
